Founded in 1629, Taishakuten Daikyoji Temple (officially Kyoeizan Daikyoji) sits at the end of the main shopping street in Shibamata. It was selected by the Yomiuri Shimbun from over 300 entries as one of the 100 Landscapes of Heisei, and is certainly Shibamata’s most famous temple. Don’t miss the Japanese garden (suikeien) located at the back of the temple, as well as the wood carvings on the exterior walls of the prayer hall.
