The flagship store of Japan’s oldest department chain (dating back to 1673) is to Tokyo what Harrods is to London or Bloomingdale’s is to New York. Standing since 1935, Mitsukoshi is also one of the oldest buildings in the area.

These two structures were formerly customs warehouses for Yokohama port. They underwent extensive renovation before re-opening in 2002. Today they contain small boutiques, craft shops, and a handful of restaurants and cafes. Open-air events are often held in the surrounding plaza.

A 9-floor shopping complex, the first six floors of which are occupied by the electronics chain Yodobashi Camera. This branch is the biggest consumer electronics store in Japan (and maybe the world). There is a tax-free counter and English speaking staff are on hand. Heaven for gadget-lovers.
