Sankeien Garden’s Firefly Evening (ホタルの夕べ) is a serene highlight in Yokohama, offering a rare opportunity to witness fireflies within a historic landscape. In early June, the garden extends its hours until 9:00 PM, allowing the soft glow of the insects to illuminate the dark, wooded paths. To ensure visitor safety and protect delicate habitats, viewing is restricted to a specific route near the streams. This tranquil experience perfectly blends natural beauty with traditional architecture. Visit our Sankeien Garden guide for details.

The garden is best reached by bus from Negishi Station or Yokohama Station, as the parking lot frequently reaches capacity during the firefly season. While the garden is vast, the “Firefly Evening” route is intentionally kept dark and narrow to maximize visibility; therefore, tripods and flash photography are strictly prohibited. Last admission is at 8:30 PM, but arriving around 6:30 PM allows you to enjoy the twilight transition before the fireflies become most active. Because this event attracts many families, be prepared for a slow-moving queue along the designated stream-side path.
