A contemporary art gallery open in 1993 which is housed inside a former bathhouse and building that is over 200 years old. The gallery is known for introducing Japan’s avant-garde artists to the world as well as for helping foreign artists establish a presence in Japan.

The style is minimalistic and simple: white walls, concrete floor, and natural light coming in from the ceiling. Incidentally, apart from being in the art district of Yanaka, SCAI The Bathhouse is also less than a minute from Ueno Sakuragi Atari, a cluster of renovated Showa buildings with a craft beer house.
