The Thai Festival Tokyo is one of Yoyogi Park’s largest annual events, drawing over 300,000 visitors to celebrate the “Land of Smiles.” Originally launched in 2000 as a food festival, it rebranded in 2005 to showcase a broader spectrum of Thai culture. Organized by the Royal Thai Embassy, the two-day event features over 150 booths offering authentic cuisine, tropical fruits, and traditional handicrafts. With high-energy stage performances ranging from Muay Thai demonstrations to T-Pop music, it is a premier celebration of Japan-Thailand friendship.

A crowded Thai Festival at Yoyogi Park with colorful flags and food stalls

The festival takes over the Yoyogi Park Event Square, conveniently located near Harajuku Station and Yoyogi-koen Station. Because of its immense popularity, the food stalls for favorites like Pad Thai, Tom Yum Goong, and mango sticky rice often have significant queues by midday. Arriving early is the best strategy to explore the handicraft and travel booths before the main stage entertainment begins. Entry is free, creating a festive, high-energy atmosphere that attracts a diverse crowd of families and food enthusiasts from across the city.
