Uramigataki Hot Spring

Another famous onsen on Hachijo Island. This one is all the more remarkable because it’s free! Despite this it is probably the most aesthetically pleasing onsen on the island: one bath into which a stream of natural spring water flows from a rock waterfall with a view that looks about 20 meters down onto a small stream and vegetation.

Because it is just one bath it is mixed bathing you need to wear swimming gear (there is a single changing room at the side of the bath). While it does feel a little strange bathing in swimming trunks, the design of the bath is beautiful and because of its slightly difficult to reach location you might be the only one there!
