Lake Chuzenji (中禅寺湖, Chūzenjiko) lies to the west of Nikko town in the Okunikko region. The small onsen in the northeast corner of the lake contains a handful of restaurants and souvenir shops, and is also the main departure terminal for the sightseeing ferry. Both Kegon Falls and the Tochigi Prefecture Nikko Natural Museum are also within walking distance. The Ryuzu Falls are also a short distance from the northern shoes of the lake.

Various water activities are offered on the shores near the town, including the popular sightseeing ferry. However, the best views of Lake Chuzenji are from Mount Nantai which stands north of the water or the Lake Chuzenji Observation Deck on the route 250 road to the south.
