This self-styled “Creative Life Store” aims to be a one-stop shop for all your retail needs and desires. The larger branches sell everything from outdoor camping equipment to animals and pet supplies, and you can often find more gimmicky items in its toys and electronics department (electronic beer dispensers and oddly-shaped sandwich toasters—that sort of thing). Free WIFI and tax-free services are available in most branches. In central Tokyo you can find branches in Shinjuku, Shibuya, Ginza, Ikebukuro, and Tokyo Station.

Mega Don Quijote

Popular discount chain store that sells just about anything. Items are stacked on top of each other and crammed onto shelves like some sort of modern day bazaar. And that’s kind of the attraction—you never quite know what you’ll find down each aisle. A great store for souvenirs or a weird gadget to take back for friends and family.

Palette Town & VenusFort

An amusement complex that contains an indoor shopping street created in an 18th century European style (VenusFort) and one of the world’s largest Ferris wheels.

Ginza Six

Up-market department store which opened in April 2017. It’s a 13-floor building with a large restaurant floor and a roof garden from which you can peer down on Chuo Dori.

Radio Kaikan

Iconic building near the JR Akihabara Station Electric Town exit that reopened in 2014 following the demolishing of the old building in 2011. When it first opened in 1962, it was the first “high-rise” building in Akihabara. Today, it has moved with the times and the focus has shifted away from electronics to manga, anime, and “otaku” goods.
