The 14 October is Railway Day (鉄道の日), commemorating the date in 1872 that Shimbashi was linked to Yokohama by railroad. The Railway Festival the weekend before aims to promote awareness of railway safety, but more broadly acts as an event where adults and children can learn more about the trains and rail network. In total 49 railway companies from across the country will man the booths, selling original goods, and there will also be shows for kids on the main stage. The event runs from 10am to 5pm both days with music concerts at 1:10pm and 1:45pm on the Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
Event details are taken from official sources whenever possible. It is always prudent to check the official event website before attending to make sure that there have not been any changes. If you know of an error in the calendar, then please let me know through the contact form.
