Tokyo’s most famous red-light district is the reason for Shinjuku’s slightly gritty and sleazy reputation. In fact, Kabukicho is also home to games arcades, a wide range of restaurants and bars, and a cinema complex—so it is a popular nightspot even for those not in search of the more carnal pleasures. The view of the neon lights of Kabukicho from Yasukuni Dori is one of Tokyo’s most iconic.
