Hitsujiyama Park Shibazakura Hill

Early Apr – Early May 2027Dates not yet confirmed!
Hitsujiyama Park, Chichibu, Saitama

From mid-April until early May, Shibazakura Hill in Hitsujiyama Park transforms into a breathtaking expanse of moss phlox (shibazakura). Spanning 17,600 square meters, the park features approximately 400,000 blooms from nine distinct species, creating a vivid patchwork of pink, purple, and white against the backdrop of Mount Buko. Benches located above the fields offer panoramic views of these striking patterns. During the peak blooming season, the park hosts the Chichibu Specialty Food Market near the entrance, where visitors can sample local delicacies, sake, and craft beer. This seasonal spectacle is one of the most celebrated floral displays in the Kanto region, providing a serene contrast to the rugged mountain scenery surrounding the Chichibu basin.

While the park is usually free to enter, an admission fee of ¥300–¥500 is required during the shibazakura season. Tickets are available at the park gates or outside Seibu-Chichibu Station. The hill is a 15-minute walk from the station, involving a short but steep 700-meter climb to the entrance. The onsite market is a major draw, selling regional souvenirs and refreshments. For those looking for more floral displays, the Fuji Shibazakura Festival takes place during the same period near Lake Motosu.

Getting there

The most convenient access is via the Seibu Railway’s “Laview” or “Red Arrow” Limited Express from Ikebukuro Station to Seibu-Chichibu Station. The journey takes approximately 80 minutes, with trains departing every 30 to 60 minutes. All seats on these express services are reserved, necessitating the purchase of a limited express ticket in addition to the base fare. Alternatively, the Chichibu Railway connects to the park via Ohyana Station, which is slightly closer to the Shibazakura Hill entrance but served by fewer express trains.
