The Laos Festival at Yoyogi Park is a colorful, biennial celebration that brings the “Land of a Million Elephants” to the heart of Tokyo. This early summer event radiates a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere, inviting visitors to discover Lao heritage through its distinct flavors and sounds. The air is filled with the enticing aroma of Laap (minced meat salad) and Ping Kai (grilled chicken), paired perfectly with iconic Beerlao. On the main stage, performers showcase elegant traditional dances and the soulful melodies of the Khene, a bamboo free-reed mouth organ, offering a peaceful yet festive glimpse into Southeast Asian culture. The Laos Festival has been running since 2007 and was set up by a Japanese person who was enamoured by the country when they did a homestay in 1996 during high school.
