Love the idea of fireworks in the summer but hate the crowds? Tired of getting your hopes up to find yourself catching only a glimpse of the fireworks between office buildings? Then maybe the Kita Hanabi Taikai is for you. At least, that’s their selling line. And, quite frankly, it’s a good one. The event takes place along the flat banks of the Arakawa River and, although the number of fireworks launched can’t compete with more major summer events (but still isn’t had at almost 8,000), you should at least get a good view of the action.

Paid seating is available for ¥1,000 upwards (see the website for details), but, of course, there is plenty of space a little further away from the launch venue where you can see the fireworks for free. The fireworks will be launched from 18:30.
