Recurring Event Event Series: White Heron Dance in Asakusa

The White Heron Dance (白鷺の舞) has roots in a scroll which depicted scenes of a parade praying for the safe transfer of Yasaka Shrine from Yamaguchi to Shimane Prefecture. The re-enactment has been performed annually since 1968—reinstated by the Asakusa Tourist Association to commemorate 100 years since Edo was renamed Tokyo and declared the official capital of Japan. The procession starts from Depoin Temple at 11:00 and the short dance is performed in front of the main hall of Sensoji at 11:30.
